1 John 3: 21,22
Beloved, if our heart does not condemn us, we have confidence toward God. And whatever we ask we receive from Him because we keep His commandments and do those things that are pleasing in His sight.

Our heart condemns us when it knows we do not measure up to God's standard of love which makes us feel insecure when we approach God. Our conscience may not acknowledge the loving deeds we have done in the power of the Holy Spirit, but God acknowledges them. The Holy Spirit reminds us in Hebrews 6:10, "God is not unjust to forget your work and labor of love which you have shown towards His name, in that you have ministered to the saints and do minister." God is superior to our hearts. Unlike our consciences, God takes everything into account; including Christ's atoning work for us. God is more compassionate and undertanding toward us than we sometimes are toward ourselves.
